WEEKEND BAG PROGRAM

Being a kid doesn’t hold you back from making a difference in your community or world!
— Isobel Costello, Founder, Weekend Bag Program

At the age of 14, high school freshman Isobel Costello heard conversations about her peers not having enough food or hygiene products in their home in the way she, and many teenagers, do. Feeling the need to do something about it, she took matters into her own hands by creating the Weekend Bag program, which she has been successfully running for 3 years.

Isobel fundraises and meets local businesses who provide support and donations to fill these Weekend Bags that she prepares and delivers to her school for distribution to students participating in this program. Student identity always remains confidential.

A student liaison works with Isobel in distributing bags to students in those schools who have adopted the program.

Isobel’s future goal for this program is to have it expand district-wide, to help as many peers in need as possible.

My hopes are that my peers in need will realize that there is someone out there that cares enough to try and help. Giving them confidence and hope to not give up because things will change and get better, and on the flip side I hope my peers who may begin to help me with this program realize that it doesn’t matter how young you are, how rich or not you may be, you can make a huge difference in your community and beyond with a simple ideal and the will and ambition to make it happen.
